We have gotten a full bloom H thunbergii from Apps this summer as well as having one we planted a year ago. Both yielded the same flowers. The flower is shown below.
The H thunbergii flower is a bright crisp yellow. The flowers are many and the scapes on the Apps plant are more than 50". However the non Apps plant in its first year has scapes about 30". The difference is twofold. The Apps plants are extra long due to their being packed in pots along with many other plants thus etiolating, and the new growth is probably small for the first year.
The branching of the H thunbergii is highly branched. The flowers are much larger than the H multiflora and much more aggressive growers at this stage. It may take a few years to attain consistent growth. We also plan on moving these to our New Hampshire operations as well.
The roots of H thunbergii are long slender roots.
