The dumortieri daylily is a vigorous bloomer and is somewhat early.
H dumortieri is to the left. It shows a clear reddish brown sepal color on the outside and a yellow color otherwise. The flowers are less sessile than H middendorfii and there is a bract at the base of the inflorescence at the end of the scape. The H dumortieri also flowers latter than the H middendorfii by about a week. We see the dumortieri blooming in the last week of May.
The H dumortieri roots are shown to the left. They appear cylindrical and not like fulva which are bulbous. Also we see that they do propagate by seed but not as aggressively as the H middendorfii.
