Daylily diversity is a significant factor in plant genomics. We can see the original species as they were one hundred years ago. The following are three species plants: altissima, citrina and hakuensis: The following are some recent introductions: We can only wonder at this stage how with the same genetic makeup we have been able to activate genes in this plant which can express significant phenotypic variability. There are several factors which account for this diversity: Genes: The daylily has 11 chromosomes and many genes on each. Gene Expression: The expression of the genes, separately and in combination allow for a significant breath of form, color, growth characteristics and other factors. Example: We show a simple example of one of our hybrids bringing is back two generations.
